Kodu(maa)

Siiani mäletan üht loengut, kus kuulajatel paluti vastata, mis on osa Eesti kultuurist. Ja üks inimene oli nobe vastama: „ Ma tean täpselt, mis ei ole osa Eesti kultuurist – venelased ”. Vastusele järgnes vastaja naer. See pani mind mõtlema häälekate populistide peale meie poliitilisel areenil. Kiired süüdistama, valetama ja manipuleerima õhutades inimesi üksteise vastu. Inimesed, kes nimetavad ühte või teist kohta oma koduks, on minu arvates osa selle piirkonna kultuurist.

Selle teose kontekstis küsitlesin inimesi kodu teemal. Neid inimesi seob see, et nad on nimetanud või nimetavad Eestit oma koduks. Intervjuu sai tehtud sõbralikus dialoogi vormis.

I still remember the lecture at the university where the audience was asked what is a part of Estonian culture and one person was particularly quick to answer. “I know exactly what is not a part of Estonian culture- Russians”. Her loud answer was followed by her own laughter… It made me think about the loud populists in our political arena. Quick to blame, lie, manipulate and put people against one another. To me people who call one or another place home are part of that area’s culture.

For this piece I asked different people questions about home. There is at least one connection between all of them-they all called or still call Estonia their home. The interview was often held in a form of friendly dialogue.
