Walking the Line Between a Home and a Penitentiary – Environment to Support Youth Rehabilitation

The thesis takes a deeper look at the ways a room can influence a person’s psychological wellness, focusing on the rehabilitation facilities for children and youth with addiction and behavioral problems. The question is: how could surroundings be used to affect youth and kids in long-term rehabilitation for better results and easier adjustment? Thesis is looking for the answers from scientific studies that cover room psychology, observations in similar facilities in Estonia, case studies, and interviews with social pedagogues. The main protagonists of this story, the children and youth in rehabilitation facilities are also included in the process. Scientific texts and other observations are translated into the language of interior design.
